Silmarillion_ Melkor and his lieutenants by Daswhox Silmarillion_ Melkor and his lieutenants by Daswhox
And here is an illustration of Melkor, Sauron and the other lieutenants ;

Gothmog (I am not inspired by his version of the film / this is a lord of Balrogs still, it must be more impressive)
Ancalagon, father of winged dragons/ Black dragon
Glaurung, father of dragons earth;
Carcharoth Lord of the werewolf;
Thuringwethil.vampire messenger.

I have not read all of them, but I look forward to learning more about them.

Watercolor/ A3/ Silmarillion/ Tolkien.

In silmarillion, there is a story that talk about it. but this is not a race "dominant".
the Lycans are more like great wolf.
Vampires, one elf disguises herself as his features, but I do not recall having heard me more.

I had no idea there were vampires in Tolkiens stories, what role do they even play? Or she for that matter?

in the Silmarillion, it speak very little - just a few lines-vampires. one Elf takes on the appearance of one of these creatures in an attempt to fool the enemy. So, yes, they exist XD simply, they are not put forward as dwarves and elves.

For now, I could not answer you, I have not finished the book and not read Tolkien's letters. But obviously, this is a people like any other land morgoth.

Eh, i guess they're not a big threat like the Orcs as they multiply like a fiery plague.

obviously not. it seems to be a rather reclusive people.
I know that for the werewolf, them, they are more important as they surround the courtyard of Sauron, during one of the periods. but vampires must be the same level as the living trees. As you are not circulated in the land, you do not risk anything.

Gothmog is AWESOME! It makes sense that, given he's a lieutenant, as a Balrog he was a higher maia before being corrupted. Fantastic!

Thuringwethil is pretty.

Usually when I see a character's name it sound familiar, but this one didn't ring a bell at all :confused:
I'm gonna have to check out The Silmarillion index of characters, now I'm really curious.

Oh there you are! Bless Silmarillion club for letting me locate you on dA XDDD I love all the art you have on your tumblr (thanks for the follow by the way XDDDD I'm one of the two angbandstyle crazy chicks XDD) Your pictures are freaking wonderful and as much as I am most excited to see all the ones with Sauron and Melkor finished, I also really love you for giving some screen time and love to the other minions like Carcharoth or Thuringwethil 8D I'm so happy people are drawing Silmarillion art, and the bad guys most of all, I love to see all the different interpretations and different ways the artists envision these guys. We are quite obsessed with them as of late XDDDDD

Amazing amazing work, I hope you'll submit all your stuff on dA <3333

I did not do this. especially considering how phobs interprêtre these characters and a huge success and deserved.
Haha, I'm glad to meet you here, I love your Balrogs are trops cute <3 (what?
yes, I find the Balrogs, pretty XD I have a weakness for the film hahaha XD and I felt quite alone in front of all these fan legolas, aragorn and co)
Well, I do not intend to stop at these drawings. I need to color the drawings and a lot of scene I have in mind XD

Phobs draws them great but there are a bunch of other less popular but just as amazing artists like you or :iconrivkaz: and :iconcenobitesquid: who went nuts about Melkor and Sauron and have yet another amazing vision of them (like look at this Mairon comic omg X3 -> [link] or this Melkor prison: [link] or this Sauron: [link] and their other stuff, go give them love! XD) I am so happy each time I see an artist that gets pulled into this Silmarillion madness, let's show the world how awesome this all is 8D Because it is so sad how many people know only Legolas and Thorin and Bilbo etc etc while they never heard of Morgoth... :/

Haha yeah I had to draw those funny balrogs XDDDD I'm happy you like my stuff too X3

Ha but the Balrogs is good, they are beautiful ... I wanted a baby balrog that was a miss makes dolls >w< but, she do not make an other.

Rivkaz Ha, I find his Sauron, just to rape .... XD It really has a very, very good design and very original.
I did not know cenobitesquid, but yes, I love this design * w * thank you for this discovery.

Oh I think I know which balrog doll you mean, this one, right? [link] it's so damn cute ;u;

I find many Sauron's quite awesome, and you know, he's a Maia, he can shapeshift, so looking at his different interpretations is simply looking at different ways he manifests himself X3

if you haven't seen her gallery yet, I'll also chime in with recommending =Gold-Seven (Tolkien specific: [link]) for lots of art of the Elves of the Silmarillion. Not the baddies you have grown to love, but it's definitely beautiful watercolour storybook art that everyone should see! I'd love to see a version of The Silmarillion illustrated by her.

This is really amazing. I really like your drawing style, which really caught pretty well the terrible beauty of Evil.
I'm a little disappointed on Carcharoth, though. First, he isn't the Lord of Werewolves (that's Draugluin) but the biggest wolf who ever lived on Middle Earth. And I expected him to be... well, bigger, more demoniac, more frightening. He's still impressive, but not in the sense I imagined. It's your vision so I won't criticize it (anyway, I still find it COOL), but I just wanted to add my feeling there. :3

But, really, this artwork is awesome ! I cant' wait to see more of it. :0

I especially love your renditions of Melkor and Sauron. I'm not sure who the other ones are but I intend to find out more. The Silmarillion is a bit thick to read through but I know I'll read it all someday. :p Great work!

Thank you. honestly, it is thick, full of information, but it is very rich and it helps to understand a little more about some many points screenplay, some names pronounced in lord of the rings. and also in the way the songs, because I did not notice before, but Yavanna is said in a melody. I think it would be really interesting to make a film or a series, but a good serie (in the kind of game of throne, but with more of our Filmmaker LOTR.) As the story is complex, but we difficult to detach. ^^
